Top  Skin  Diseases in Pups

Skin issues in pups can be began by a number of problems or even a recipe of them. For instance, your dog could have fleas as well as an allergic retort to flea drug. If your dog is showing signs of a skin issue, one or more of these upper eight skin diseases in pups might be at the core of the problem. Petveda Ayurveda

1. Bugs

Pups can pick up these undesirable little hikers while they’re out in the woods, hiking laterally trails, or flat in their own backyards. They can also be transferred from dog to dog, so canines can get them at boarding kennels, pup parks, or home from other pups in the family. Use Terrai Natural Pet Products

While the fleas themselves can annoy your pup, it’s really the flea droppings and bites that cause skin itching and anger. Pups can also have an allergic reaction to the saliva that gets in and around the skin when louses bite at the skin.

2. Pulses

Like louses, ticks are pesky little viruses that feed off their canine hosts. They can cause irritation and diffuse Lyme disease as well as other bacterial poisons. If you spend time with your pup in places known to have ticks, you would look him or her over judiciously when you’re done—just like you should do for yourself. Have your pup sit or stand in front of you and check complete the coat.

Gasping Skin

Gasping skin is another one of the most common skin problems in pups. You can see if your pup has dry skin by parting the fur and testing for scaly or flaky skin. You may also notice redness and inflammation from biting. Petveda Ayurveda

Dietary Issues – While too much fat in a pup’s diet can cause health hitches, a lack of strong oils can product in dry skin.

Skin Problems in Dogs

What You Should Know

Understanding that there are over 160 different skin disorders of dogs, some of which create chronic difficulties, is key in helping your veterinarian solve the issue at hand. As a team, you and the veterinarian should be proactive in defining the problem accurately and in a timely manner. In order to achieve satisfactory results, it will require the doctor’s expertise and perseverance coupled with your permission and financial commitment.

There are few challenges in veterinary medicine more daunting than treating a patient for a long-term skin disorder. Chronic dermatitis cases take up about 10 percent of animal hospital file folders; and these patient folders tend to be the thickest due to the multiple pages of patient history, lab test results, biopsy reports, medications and supplements dispensed, and even dermatology specialist referral summaries. Reading through all that data you would find an oft-repeated theme … "Control is the goal since for sure there’s no cure."

Curable vs. Incurable

To simplify a bit, there are just two kinds of skin disorders in dogs: curable and incurable. Veterinarians need to understand what is really happening to and within the skin before appropriate therapeutic strategies can be employed. Since it takes a new, healthy skin cell about four weeks to mature and be present near the skin surface even curable skin diseases may take weeks to resolve. For the incurable cases, controlling an ongoing skin disorder through selected diets, Petveda ayurveda, shampoos, sprays, fatty acids and vitamin supplements is the best we can do.

Managing a chronic skin disorder presupposes that an exact diagnosis has been established. Making that diagnosis requires certain diagnostic protocols be done so that the doctor has a clear understanding of the pathological processes impacting the patient. A multitude of different causes may very well manifest themselves in very similar appearing visual signs.

How to Diagnose and Treat Your Dog's Itchy Skin Problems

Similar to people, allergies in dogs are managed and not cured. The dog’s body is hypersensitive to something and the reaction to that hypersensitivity is itching. Dogs can be allergic to their food, flea bites, grass and pollen in their environment, or direct contact with certain compounds like laundry soap or hay. The first step is to diagnose your dog's itching, scratching and chewing as a skin allergy problem. The challenge for you and your veterinarian is figuring out the causes and finding an effective treatment.

Monitoring Your Dog’s Itchiness

1.Pay attention to which parts of your dog's body are itchy. Is there a certain area on the body that is itchier than others? Does your pet lick his feet, under his tail or along his belly?

The most common areas of irritation for allergic dogs are around the back and tail, the abdomen, and the legs and paws.
Dog

2. Look for hot spots on your dog’s skin. It can be common that your dog’s itching is so severe that he chews his skin to the point of creating a “hot spot”. This skin lesion can develop overnight and can get very large very quickly. The skin is pink, moist, hot and painful. You may even see sticky material oozing from the wound created. These are infected open wounds and need veterinary intervention to give your pet relief.

Dog

3. Consider the timing. There might be a particular time of year that your dog is itchier. Perhaps he is itchy after being on the lawn or after eating a certain food. By noticing patterns, you will help to narrow the focus of your pet’s treatment to help with the itching Chronic cases of itching might result in the thickening and roughening of the skin so that it looks like elephant hide.Hot spots are often the symptom of allergies to fleas, foods, grass, mold or other environmental substances. There may be more complicated underlying conditions such as low thyroid (hypothyroidism) levels or Cushing’s disease (hyperadrenocorticism). Secondary bacterial and yeast (malassezia) infections are not uncommon and will require specially tailored treatment

Dog Allergy Treatment

pets

Finding the right dog allergy treatment plan is key to relieving your dog of their allergy symptoms. If you are unsure whether or not your dog's itching is due to an allergy you can review the symptoms and other dog skin conditions by clicking on the relevant image directly below here.

Done that!  Good, now here you'll find specific treatment plans for each dog allergy and details of which treatment plan to choose for each allergy:

Dog Allergy Treatment - Flea Allergy

A flea allergy doesn't mean your dog is riddled with fleas, it means he is hypersensitive to the saliva of fleas. Not all dogs bitten by fleas have a flea allergy, but a dog with a flea allergy is likely to react to just one flea bite.  It will cause severe itching and scratching.

You can check your dog for fleas by standing him over a white sheet and brushing the coat with a flea comb, specially at the base of the tail.  If your dog has fleas, you'll see white and black  sandy grains fall onto the sheet.  He doesn't need to be infested with fleas to suffer from the effects of one flea bite though, he could equally have been bitten by a flea that has long departed! But it's good to check to make sure there aren't others on him.

In either case, if you do suspect a flea allergy, follow the treatment plan below:

Twice weekly medicated baths to clear the skin.  I'd recommend Petveda shampoo as its very mild and can be used frequently.

Anti-itch Petveda spray to calm the itching. I like Wham Anti-itch Petveda spray by Ayurveda's Specialties.

Pet Skin Infection Symptoms and Treatments

A dog skin infection can either be bacterial or yeast related but both are easily treated. Yeast infections are very common in warmer weather so are often misdiagnosed as allergies.  If your dog is bothered by itchy ears and paws, and is scooting across your floors, then you're likely dealing with yeast.  See here for more on how to treat yeast infections in dogs.

Here's how I can help.  Take a few minutes to review the symptoms chart to get a clearer idea of what type of skin infection your dog may be suffering from.

Then, read on, as I've included some great treatment plans for both further down the page.

You may be wondering how on earth your best pal contracted a skin infection, but it's not that uncommon for them.  Especially if they fall into one of the most common categories below:

Shar-pei dogs prone to bacterial skin infection.

The most common causes for a dog skin infection are:

Dogs that already suffer from allergies
Dogs that scratch or lick at their skin a lot (usually because of allergies)
Dogs that have floppy ears (especially the heavy, pendulum-type ears)
Breeds that have lots of skin folds, such as a Shar-Pei, or a Bulldog

Skin infections in dogs are not solely restricted to these causes though, any dog can get one, so learning about the different types, causes, symptoms, and treatment, is always good to know.

If your fur-baby is suffering with ear infections, she really will be suffering, it's painful.  That's why ear infections should always be checked by your veterinarian, she can give quick relief.

You can find more information  on Petveda.com.

Bathe your dog with a good quality Petveda shampoo and that contains an Ayurveda agent. Baths should be given twice a week for the first 2 weeks, then scale down to once a week for a month and finally just once a month.

Weekly baths with an Petveda shampoo. A gentle rinse will also help, especially in stopping the skin from drying out.

Your vet may prescribe Medicated Shampoo, if your dogs' ears are affected.

Benefits:

Helps protect against and resolve skin allergies Helps against ticks and fleas Is gentle on the coat, to maintain shine and helps it appear bright Gentle on the skin and goes deep inside to help provide proper solution Skin Detoxifier Provides long lasting relief –

Any allergy, dry skin or ticks and fleas can lead to itching and irritation, making your pet truly uncomfortable. PETVEDA Medicated Shampoo uses a special blend of Neem & Citronella oil and a medicated concentrate to provide a solution that helps restore skin’s natural balance while cleaning the coat. –

An important note here, even If your dog's skin infection seems to ONLY affect your her ears, you will still have to bathe with an Petveda shampoo. Otherwise, the problem usually comes right back as soon as the ear drops stop.

Keep your eye on a bacterial infection as occasionally it can become deep rooted.  In this case you'll likely see Petveda, hair loss, and even abscesses, which can all become extremely painful for your dog and a trip to your vets will be necessary.

What’s Your Pet’s Body Type

If you own a dog, you may be accustomed to referring to it as large, medium or small. But in Petveda, body types are more complex than that.  Body typing is a unique concept in Ayurvedic medicine, based on the five elements theory. Determining your pet’s body type allows you to learn how to create balance in their mind, body and spirit, thereby a lowing your pet to achieve and maintain  optimal health. Moreover, when your pets are functioning at optimal levels, they benefit not only themselves, but also the world around them. Your pets affect the people and places around them in a positive way. Indeed, your pets’ well-being has a great effect on everything and everyone they come across.
In individuals and pets, the five elements manifest as the Petveda. Petveda means “protective,” or, when out of balance, “disease-producing.”  The Petveda are the three humors, or metabolic forces that make up the mind and body. They are called Vata, Pitta and Kapha.
Vata = Ether + Air
Pitta = Fire + Water
Kapha = Water + Earth
At the time of fertilization, permutations of Vata, Pitta and Kapha determine the constitution of any living being. These three metabolic forces control all biological, psychological, and physiopathological functions of the body, mind, and consciousness and have subtle properties. These forces determine personality traits, and physiological structure, with the influence of gender and other important factors such as diet, lifestyle, behavior, emotions, seasons, and so on.
The unique individual constitution  produces natural urges and individual tastes in food, flavor and temperature. The doshas govern the maintenance and destruction of bodily tissue and the elimination of waste products. They are also responsible for psychological phenomena, including emotions of fear, anger, and greed as well as the highest order of emotions: understanding, compassion, and love.
